Model sailing is truly an equal opportunity sport. People who enjoy model boating hail from a variety of backgrounds and pursue the sport for a myriad of reasons. MMYC's objective is to provide an environment that welcomes them all.

Our members include 2nd and 3rd generation sailors who have been building and sailing models since they were children. Other members have never sailed or owned a model or full-scale boat previously. Some have sailed and raced full-scale boats since childhood, but never sailed a model. Some members started modeling in their teens while others pursued the sport after retirement.

In the early days our boats were hand-built from wood with cotton sails. There were no kits, no radio controls. Today kits - which facilitate the boat building process - are readily available and inexpensive.
